According to a report by Akamai Technologies, the gaming industry has become one of the most frequent targets of malicious actors, with 12 billion attacksoccurring in the last 17 months.

Akamai's " 2019 State of the Internet/Security Web Attacks and Gaming Abuse " report says the gaming industry is one of the most lucrative targets for criminals looking for a quick buck. From November 2017 to March 2019, 55 billion instances of credential stuffing attacks occurred across all industries.
The gaming industry is targeted by hackers
Akamai security researcher Martin McKeay said, “One reason we believe the gaming industry is an attractive target for hackers is because criminals can easily trade in-game items to make money. Additionally, gamers are known to be willing to spend money on their favorite games, so their financial situation is also a tempting target for attackers.”
Russia is the second largest source of attacks on applications, but it is not on the list of top 10 target countries.
Furthermore, according to information cited in the report, most of the user data stolen and used in credential stuffing, which are circulating on the dark web and in various forums, use data originating from some of the largest data breaches in the world, many of which have as their main cause an SQLi attack.
