Huawei files trademark application for its OS in multiple countries

Huawei

Lately, we have heard that many companies have stopped working with Huawei. One of the biggest blows, however, for the Chinese company, was the ban on using Android on its future devices. However, as we have already mentioned in the past, Huawei has been creating its own operating system for several years, which, in China, is called “Hongmeng”. The new operating system will replace Android.

According to reports, the company has filed for trademark registration in various countries.

Huawei has apparently targeted 9 countries and Europe in an effort to find support for its operating system from major markets.

The US government last month blacklisted Huawei, banning American companies from doing business with it. One of those companies is Alphabet Inc., whose Android OS is used in the Chinese company's phones.

Andrew Williamson, Huawei's vice president of public affairs and communications, said that the company's operating system, Hongmeng, is on track and will soon be released to the market.

On the other hand, the US is not showing much confidence in Huawei's move. A senior official said its customers should ask themselves whether the Chinese company can deliver on its promises.

Specifically, the official stated: “If someone decides to go with Huawei and it continues to be on our blacklist, is it certain that the company will actually be able to deliver what it promises?”.

Huawei has not yet revealed many details about its operating system and its next moves.

However, according to some information, the company's goal is to use Hongmeng in many products, such as smartphones, laptops, robots, and car TVs.

In China, Huawei has found support from major tech companies, such as Xiaomi, Tencent, and OPPO.

User concerns

Huawei has been in a pretty difficult position for a long time (about a year), ever since the US accused the Chinese company of installing backdoors in its products.

The Chinese company has denied that its products pose a security threat.

However, with all these accusations and bans placed on the company, many consumers have become terrified (especially about the possibility of being cut off from Android) and are considering abandoning Huawei.

Huawei had hoped to become the top smartphone maker in the fourth quarter of this year, but a company executive said that won't happen anytime soon.
