Offensive Security releases Kali Linux 2019.1

2019.1Offensive Security announced on Monday the immediate availability of Kali Linux 2019.1, the latest version of the Debian-based operating system, which is designed specifically for penetration testing and forensic investigations.

Kali Linux 2019.1 fixes over a dozen bugs, updates the kernel to version 4.19.13, and upgrades a significant number of packages.

The most significant update concerns Metasploit, which has been upgraded to version 5.0. The latest version of the penetration testing framework introduces new features, improves performance, and is easier to use.

The DBeaver and Harvester packages have also been updated in Kali Linux 2019.1.

The Kali Linux developers also announced that the ARM version is re-adding support for BANANA PI and BANANA PRO computers. They also say that the Raspberry Pi images have been simplified to make it easier for users.

“There are no longer separate Raspberry Pi images for users with TFT LCD displays, because we now include re4son’s kalipi-tft-config script, so if you want to install a TFT board, run “kalipi-tft-config” and follow the instructions,” the developers explained.

Users can update their existing installations or download a new Kali Linux image for version 2019.1 via HTTP or torrent.

In 2018, four versions of Kali Linux were released, while in 2017, three.
