In these dangerous times, with thefts on the rise, it's not a bad idea to install an outdoor security camera. We can receive alerts about package deliveries, strange activity outside our door, and possibly even would-be thieves trying to break into our home.
Costco has an interesting solution to these problems, in the form of Ring.
Ring is a smart doorbell-camera that simultaneously offers the ability to monitor the exterior of your home via live video and at the same time sends you notifications, offers two-way voice communication and has a rechargeable, removable battery.
CNET the Ring Video Doorbell 2 in 2017 and gave it 3.5 stars.
Ring also has a crowdsourcing component (via the “Neighbors” app) that allows you to connect with other Ring owners in the area to receive notifications of any attempted break-ins, share videos, and potentially, identify scammers.
Plus, if the Ring itself is stolen, you can get another one for free.
Ring initially offers a 30-day free trial, but after that it stops recording video unless you opt to pay for a subscription. The subscription costs $3 per month or $30 per year – a pretty reasonable amount, considering you’re looking at home security.
The Ring is available for $200.
