Bitdefender: New GrandCrab ransomware decryption program

Bitdefender , in collaboration with Europol, the Romanian Police and various other law enforcement agencies, has developed and released a free decryption utility for victims of versions 1, 4 or 5 of the GrandCrab ransomware.

The reason is Bitdefender's BDGrandCrabDecryptTool which can help you decrypt your files.

First you must check if the locked files have .GDCB, .KRAB or a random ten‑character uppercase extension. If so, you are infected by GrandCrab v1, v4 or v5, which are supported by the BDGrandCrabDecryptTool.

Researchers emphasized that the information found in the ransom‑notes is of particular importance as it allows them to calculate the unique decryption key for the victims' files.

Furthermore, it is important for the successful decryption of the files to have an active internet connection.

It is also noteworthy that even though you can recover all your encrypted files using the BDGrandCrabDecryptTool developed by the Bitdefender team, it does not mean you are 100% clean. Therefore, you should use a security solution to scan all the files that have been infected by GrandCrab on your machine.

Informationally, the GrandCrab ransomware is a malicious software strain, active throughout 2018, which demanded up to $3000 from its victims to decrypt locked files.

The hacker behind GrandCrab simply uses a ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) "business" model that allows other malicious users to deploy the malware in their own malware campaigns.
