In a previous post, we reported that Microsoft would retire the classic Skype application in November 2018.
One of the most popular features, Split View, will finally appear in the modern Store app called Skype for Windows 10.
Split view is a special feature of the app that allows you to have each conversation in a separate window, instead of all appearing in a single window merged with the contact panel.
This feature is available exclusively to users using the App Preview version. To try the feature, you need to click on the three-dot button (“…”) and then select “Enable Split View mode” from the menu.
Immediately after that the main window will only display your contacts. Double-clicking on any contact will open a new chat window.
To restore the default appearance, use the Open Recent Conversations button available in the upper left corner of any chat window. The “Split” feature can also be disabled from the main menu (“…”).
This new feature will appeal to users of the old Skype app.
Skype for Windows 10 is available in the Microsoft Store. Depending on your Insider program settings, you'll see version 8.33.76.40 or 14.33.40.0.
