It looks like Mozilla is following in Opera's footsteps. A German website reports that Mozilla will begin testing its commercial VPN for some users in the US, starting today.
Unlike Opera, which offers its own VPN service, Mozilla partners with ProtonVPN, a Swiss VPN provider, to utilize its networking resources for a more advanced level of security.
The service will offer users protection from harmful websites, insecure connections, any unrecognized network , etc. In other words, almost everything a VPN offers.
While VPNs provide adequate security for users browsing the Internet, users may be annoyed when Firefox suggests using the service every time they want to browse a less secure website. Proton VPN will also charge users $10 to use its service.
Besides, users might be suspicious about the nature of the deal between Mozilla and Porton VPN. Since Firefox will earn a share of the $10/month revenue if users sign up for the service, it's hard to trust third-party apps. It would have been much better if Mozilla had developed its own VPN instead.
