Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 4 with much fanfare alongside the iPhone XS, which is proving to be its best-selling product to date.
Demand for the Apple Watch Series 4 has reached record levels, with wait times increasing to 3 to 4 weeks. As a result, the Cupertino-based company is trying to address this by speeding up production of the device by adding a new supplier.
Quanta Computer, which manufactures the Apple Watch Series 4 devices, has reached its maximum productivity, and this is a sign that even Apple did not expect to sell so many units of the new generation of wearables.
However, the company has a backup plan and wants Compal Electronics to start production of the Series 4 as well. This can't happen overnight though, just like what happened with Compal on the Series 3.
This means the company needs a few weeks to prepare its production lines and reach the desired output, but if all goes according to plan, Compal should start producing the Apple Watch Series 4 at maximum speed in November.
For Apple, this is simply perfect timing, as the combination of Compal and Quanta's manufacturing capacity means the company will have a large inventory of watches during the holiday season. Needless to say, this is the time of year when the Apple Watch is expected to sell at record levels, and Apple wants to be fully prepared for this moment.
The Apple Watch is currently the smartest smartwatch on the market, and the new generation brings features that could help it sell even more smartwatches. New tools like EKG and fall detection allow the Apple Watch to expand into the health market, making it one of the most advanced wearables on the market today.
