As reported in a Twitter discussion started by Christoph Tavan and on Hacker News by Jan Wildeboer, the latest version of Google's Chrome browser (69.0.3497.100) does not delete all cookies when users clear their cache.
In its latest version, Google's Chrome suddenly introduced an automatic login to the browser for users who have signed up for any other Google service, sparking a huge debate about notifying users and requiring their consent at the time of login.
Today, Google Chrome proved that it wants to keep data by not deleting Google cookies or the browser's localStorage when asked to delete browsing data (including cookies and other website data).
When we try to clear cookies, Google Chrome notifies the user that it will not log out of their Google account, implying that some cookies containing login data will not be deleted.
The issue is that, although Chrome notifies its users about their connection to the Chrome account system, it does not give them the option to bypass this measure.
Additionally, after clearing all browsing data and all cookies for the “All time” time period, Tavan was still unable to get rid of Google cookies even when using the “Remove All” button in the top right corner of “All cookies and site data” at chrome://settings/siteData?search=cookies.
According to Tavan, the cookies seem to be removed and recreated immediately, at least the cookie content and creation date seem to change: However: After pressing the “remove all” button, you are not untangled.
Adrienne Porter Felt, a Google Chrome engineer and manager, said that “you can log out and then delete these cookies.”.
This means that Google cookies are protected whenever the user is logged in to Google Chrome to provide connection stability and not disconnect the user unexpectedly.
So, if you want to completely remove your Google Chrome browsing data, make sure you are first logged out of your account system and then press the “Clear Data” button.
