BSODs: Updates continue to appear these days, and here we have one that was released in December, but its effects have not been detected until today.
Windows 10 update KB4058043, which is rolling out to systems running the Fall Creators, brings reliability improvements to the Microsoft Store and fixes an issue that Microsoft said could cause app update failures and unnecessary network requests.
But as it turns out, it's creating new problems on many systems that have it installed. Reports on Microsoft's community forums prove that it's truly an issue that all users should be aware of as, as revealed, Windows 10 update KB4058043 caused BSODs on one system before eventually pushing it into an unbootable state.
At this point, it's still unclear whether this is a widespread bug or not, but Microsoft engineers responded to the post and provided some suggestions as to what might have gone wrong.
"If you can't start your device after installing an update, a Windows component may be damaged. We recommend downloading and using installation media to restore your system or reset your PC," a Microsoft engineer said.
Microsoft doesn't list any known bugs on this update's page, and there's no workaround available at this point, although judging from the various reports, the only thing you can do is make a backup. If there's no backup, reinstalling Windows may be the only option.
