Grabos Malware: Malware infections continue in Google Play Store apps . This time, researchers from the security division of McAfee have discovered a new Android malware that infected 144 apps.
Grabos Malware , as it was called, mainly hides behind music playback applications. Its spread was done in a rather clever way through the application “ Aristotle Music Audio Player 2017” which, after being installed, asked the user to rate the application with 5 stars to help its developer . Then, he had to share the application with his friends and in return he would have faster speed in downloading songs. The whole process made the application so famous that it reached 5,000,000 downloads .
Grabos, like any other malware, steals personal data from the user's mobile phone, as well as device information (Version,Build Model, Location Code, Country, Sim ,Language) and social media. It is then sent to a command-and-control server with encryption and falls into the hands of the eavesdropper.
Its discovery was made in September 2017 and the reason it bypassed Google Play 's security measures is because its developer used the so-called Obfuscator Code , machine code that is not understandable to humans, so it is necessary to run the application and then analyze it to detect that there is anything malicious.
The good news is that after McAffee 's report, Google removed all infected apps from the Google Play Store .
In the table below you can see some of the most well-known applications infected by Grabos Malware.
