If you're not a fan of Blackberry for your own personal reasons, we're just about to add another one to your list.
John Chen, the company's CEO, just confirmed that he is available to violate the company's customer security policy if asked by the government, essentially stating that they will jeopardize the safety of users at a time when other manufacturing companies are fighting against this state requirement.
Unlike Apple, Microsoft and Google, which have legal disputes with the US government, BlackBerry says it is willing to break its encryption system and grant access to user data, including conversations, emails and other data.
CEO John Chen doesn't think Blackberry's tactic is bad at all, which could make it much more difficult for other tech giants to fight the law that wants to control user data.
The worst part is that while major tech companies regularly provide transparency reports revealing how many requests they've received from governments for access to user data, Blackberry has never done so and never will. Strange, right?
"We have never been asked for a report, nor do we have any internal policy on what to do in such a case. Of course, like any large technology company involved in telecommunications, we have received several requests," Chen explained.
In terms of information, the market research company, Gartner, gives BlackBerry a market share of 0% and after today's revelations, we are not surprised why.
