Android 8.0 was released in August, but Google seems to be preparing the next big update. The company today announced a developer preview of Android 8.1. The final version is expected sometime in December.
At the moment, there don't seem to be many useful features in version 8.1 for a regular user.
This preview includes some changes for developers, such as improvements to on-device machine learning, new memory management features, and improvements to autofill.
It is currently unknown whether 8.1 activates the Pixel 2's hidden image management chip, as nothing is mentioned in the release notes.
