Hewlett Packard new firmware blocks third‑party inks

Hewlett Packard (HP) released a new firmware for the company's Officejet printers that appears to block the use of ink by third‑party manufacturers.

The company caused a stir a year ago when it released firmware for some of its printers that prevented the use of ink from non- HP. Hewlett Packard

HP released an updated software version a month later that restored all functions and allowed printer inks from third parties.

The new firmware update from Hewlett Packard released on September 13, 2017 looks like an exact copy of the firmware update that was released a year earlier (on the exact same day).

The printers display the following error message after installing the new firmware on the printer:

One or more cartridges appear to be damaged. Remove and replace with a new cartridge.

The affected printer models include the printers: HP OfficeJet 6800 Series, HP OfficeJet Pro 6200 Series, HP OfficeJet Pro X 450 Series, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 series and many other models.

However, as it appears, the refusal of inks that do not belong to the company from HP printers is due to a feature called Dynamic Security.

HP's Support page "HP Inkjet Printers – Dynamic Security Feature Affecting Cartridges Using Non-HP Security Chip" provides instructions on how to disable Dynamic Security and the ban on third-party inks will stop.

After this, you have two options to avoid future problems:

Block automatic updates on your Hewlett Packard printer.
or Change printer company
