Chrome, Firefox, drop in August, surprise from Safari

Google Chrome continues to be the number one browser worldwide, but even though it is the preferred choice for the majority of users, this does not necessarily mean there are no disruptions.Chrome

Living proof is the browser's performance in August 2017, as Google Chrome fell for the first time in many months, from 59.57% the previous month to 59.38%.

The market share decline does not appear to be significant, but it stops Google Chrome from reaching 60 percent, which seemed to be close to catching up. In October 2016, Google Chrome was at 54.99% of desktop computers, and in 2017 up to August we saw a significant increase in the adoption of Google's browser.Chrome, Firefox, drop in August, surprise from Safari

But Chrome wasn't the only browser to see changes last month. Let's take a look at Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge.

Firefox lost a market share of 0.04 percent from the 12.28 percent it held the previous month.

Meanwhile, Microsoft's Edge browser, which is exclusively available on Windows 10, managed to increase its share by just 0.01 percent to finally reach 5.66%, as the app continues to try to persuade users not to use Google's browser.Chrome, Firefox, drop in August, surprise from Safari

Thus, if both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox fell last month while Edge observed a very slight upward trend, where did all those who are looking for a different browser go?

Safari was the browser that saw the biggest increase in adoption rate last month, rising from 3.66% to 3.87%. This means that the trend of switching from Windows to macOS is increasing (;), with many users deciding to use Apple’s browser that is offered by default in the company’s operating system.

It remains to be seen if this trend will continue in the coming months. If it does, Microsoft has serious reasons to be concerned, as users seem to prefer Apple over the arrival of new Windows 10 releases.
