Google today announced changes to the Play Store to increase the likelihood of finding apps that, as you know, sometimes don't work properly.
According to Android Developers Blog , half of Play Store app reviews are about app stability. With that in mind, Google has turned its search on to favor apps and games that are proven to be of higher quality:
“As part of our ongoing effort to provide the best possible experience on Google Play, we recently strengthened our search and discovery algorithms that reflect the quality of apps. This results in higher quality apps appearing more often in the Play Store than similar lower quality apps (e.g. apps that experience more frequent crashes).”
What remains unclear from the company and its announcement, however, is what happens to apps that have no reviews at all? Will they also appear first in search results even if no one is interested in them?
Google is also advising app developers, who may suddenly find themselves at the bottom of a search list, to use user feedback to improve their apps and increase their ratings.
