The latest statistics from Kantar confirm what we already knew: Windows . phones are dead and everyone is switching to Android and iOS smartphones
Kantar reports that Windows phones no longer have the ability to support a third operating system that follows the leaders, Android and iOS.
"The era when BlackBerry OS, Symbian and Windows Mobile had an impact is over. It is clear that if a manufacturing company wants to succeed, it must use the Android or iOS operating system," Kantar reports.
In terms of sales share in the three-month period through January, Windows phones have lost ground in all major markets.
Specifically, Windows phones in Germany fell to 2.9%, while the decline was even greater in the United Kingdom and France. In Italy, they fell to 4.4%, while in Spain they collapsed to 0.4%. In the United States, which is Microsoft's home, the market share reached 1.3%, while in China it was 0.1%.
Microsoft is apparently not doing so well in Australia either, with Windows Phones accounting for 1% of the country's sales. The only country where sales are improving is Japan, where the platform jumped from 0.5% to 1.5%.
Naturally, Windows Phones are expected to continue to decline in even more markets, mainly because they haven't received any improvements in the last year, and Microsoft hasn't revealed any information about the future of the devices. Therefore, it's very difficult for users and developers to have any reason not to abandon the platform.
