iPhone users no longer need to download a third‑party app just to scan a QR code, using Google Chrome. The latest update of Google Chrome for iOS brings a highly sought‑after and quite essential feature to any phone, a QR scanner.
The Google Chrome App version 56.0.2924.79 is available in the App Store and includes an integrated QR code scanner that can be accessed from the 3D Touch menu in Chrome. Users can also type QR in Spotlight and click on the icon that appears below.
The Chrome app is not the only application that Google will integrate a QR code scanner into. Last year, the giant company introduced a QR code scanner into Now, an extension of Google Now for smartphones with the Android mobile OS.
The QR code scanner has offered users a new and quick way to learn about new products. But QR codes are used in many other ways, including enhancing security and further encrypting messages, such as WhatsApp. In some countries, QR codes offer a way to pay for groceries or get discounts at certain stores. In retail, QR codes are mainly used to provide additional information about a product.
There are plenty of third-party QR code scanning apps on the App Store, but some are paid, contain ads, or don't work as smoothly as expected. Google's new feature is sure to appeal to many iPhone users, especially since you don't have to install an additional app that takes up space on your phone just to scan a QR code.
The update of the Google Chrome app also brings a redesigned tab on the iPad, to make access to open sites easier.
