Facebook today announced some changes to how it will handle videos in your News Feed.
In the past, videos were categorized based on certain actions. For example, whether a video was live, whether you should turn on the sound, or whether you could open it in full screen view.
Today's announcement appears to add another category: "percent completion."
Completion rate is exactly what it sounds like, the amount of time you watch each video before closing it and continuing your browsing to other data on the page.
The higher the completion rate, the more the video will appear in others' News Feeds as the content is likely to be engaging.
How will the change affect your page? We'll see in practice, but according to Facebook, most pages won't notice any significant change.
This particular change may have been announced today, but not all users of the social network will notice it, as it will begin rolling out gradually.
The reason for the gradual rollout of the new feature is that it needs to be monitored. Once it is determined that it works without unforeseen problems, it will be released for all users.
