Microsoft: tacitly allows free upgrades from Windows 7

As we predicted at iGuRu.gr even before Microsoft's free upgrade offer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 expired, the company continues to offer free upgrades from its older operating systems, now silently.Windows 7

On May 6, 2016, we reported in the article/opinion “Windows 10 and Microsoft's Success Story”:

The real bet for Microsoft will be to maintain Windows 10 adoption once the free upgrade offer ends. The company reiterated today that Windows 7 and 8.1 users have only three months (July 29, 2016 is the last day) to upgrade for free, and then prices will be $119 for the Home edition, and $199 for the Pro edition.

However, we wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft expands its offering. If it doesn't, the company's goal of installing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices "in two to three years" is at risk of not being met. Nearly a third of the goal has been achieved in nine of the 36 months. But if that pace slows, Microsoft will have to expand its offering.

Today we read on ghacks that the blog administrator was able to perform a free upgrade from Windows 7 by purchasing the license from eBay.

It was expected. Why?

Let's remember that Windows 10 is a service. This means that it will be updated regularly with not only fixes, but also new features. Windows 10 was developed in a very different way than its predecessors, and is still under development. Let's recall the information that the company receives through Windows 10 telemetry, citing the ongoing development of the operating system.

Meanwhile, data continues to fill the company's big data dumps.

For many reasons, Windows is still vital to the company, which is why it pushed very aggressively for Windows 10 adoption when it first launched.

After a slew of complaints on the internet, Microsoft openly admitted its aggressive behavior, but it appears to be continuing to promote its operating system, essentially breaking what it had announced.

It seems that the adoption of the operating system by more users (and essentially their removal from Windows 7) is more important than the fact that Microsoft has once again been caught reversing what it announces.
