The new Fedora 25 operating system was released on November 22, 2016, and brings all the latest operating system and kernel versions.
For those of you who want to upgrade your old Fedora 24 system to the new Fedora 25, Fedora Ambassador Justin W. Flory has published a nice tutorial on how you can do it without installing from scratch by deleting the old one.
So below we will see how to upgrade to the new Fedora 25 via the GNOME Software manager or with the DNF package manager.
Let's look at the easy way first:
Open GNOME Software from the GNOME Shell interface, go to the Updates tab, and upgrade to Fedora 24 by following the instructions that appear on your screen.
Upgrading from Fedora 24 to Fedora 25 with DNF
If you are a Fedora power user you can do it from the DNF Upgrade plugin. The process of upgrading from Fedora 24 to Fedora 25 is quite simple, but you will have to run a few commands in the terminal.
First of all, make sure that the Fedora 24 software you are using is up to date and that you have taken a backup of your most important files and settings.
Next, you will need to install the DNF Upgrade plugin using the first command listed below. After installation, you can start the upgrade operation with the second command.
sudo dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade sudo dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=25
Once all the packages have been downloaded, you will need to reboot your system, no matter which method you used. The system upgrade will continue and will take a few minutes to complete. If you encounter any problems, you can ask for help from the Fedora community or the project wiki page, referring to the section “ DNF system upgrade.”
