Twitter announced yesterday that it plans to shut down the Vine app, which is known for its 140-second video feature.

Vine began its online presence in January 2013 and, as seen from Twitter's announcement, will end in the coming months.
The app has been the source of many humorous clips, even experimental short films. It has recently been embroiled in a corporate battle over who will prevail in the space. With Instagram adding video support, Twitter has tried to retaliate by allowing longer videos (up from 6 seconds to 140 seconds), but it seems that this is not enough to keep the app in the game.
Twitter is reportedly preparing to lay off 300 employees, many of whom will likely be those working on its Vine app.
