What is and why does the about:blank page exist?

Have you noticed the about:blank page, or have you ever wondered about the purpose of such a page?

Most of you have set a specific page as your browser's homepage. There are also those who set about:blank instead of a page, in other words, they have chosen a blank website.

Is it really just a blank web page or does it serve a purpose? Is it just a blank page that is built into some web browsers?about:blank

According to the above, a blank page like about:blank on the homepage can make your browser open much faster. This way you won't have to wait for the homepage you're using to load. But that's not all.

Let's see how the about:blank page started

This page is designated for internal use by the web browser. It originated from Netscape Navigator, the browser that Mozilla Firefox pioneered. This includes about:blank.

According to RFC 6694 of the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force):

The “about” URI Scheme

Abstract

This document describes the "about" URI scheme, which is widely used
by Web browsers and some other applications to designate access to
their internal resources, such as settings, application information,
hidden built-in functionality, and so on.

about:blank is intended for a blank page for internal use, such as settings, app information, hidden features, etc.

However, it should be mentioned that about:blank, because it is a blank internal page, and does not depend on any external sources, serves as a basis for measuring (or benchmarking) connections and slow systems.

Do you know of anything different? We'd love to see it in the comments.
