A few days ago we reported on the arrest of the alleged owner of KickassTorrents and the closure of the website. However, it seems that the file-sharing website has started operating again under a new domain (as is usual).
But is it the authentic website?
For the record: The U.S. government has arrested the owner of KickassTorrents, the world's largest torrent website. The 30-year-old Ukrainian was arrested in Poland today and charged with copyright violations and money laundering. In addition, a federal court in Chicago ordered the seizure of several domains used by the KAT.
But let's see what happened:
According to The Verge, the new website operates under KAT.am. The Verge reports that the new website is “hosted on multiple cloud servers and uses the Internet security provider CloudFlare.”
Currently the page does not have torrents.
TorrentFreak on the other hand reports that KickassTorrents is still down but that the famous website's community remains very active.
Proof? The management team members set up a new site that currently hosts the KickassTorrents forum on the Katcr.co,
As you may have noticed, one piece of news cancels out the other. The phenomenon is well-known, and it is common if a major torrent site, or any major site in general, goes down.
The next moment, hundreds of clones appear, trying to take advantage of the traffic of the page that was closed.
So if you read on the Internet about the reappearance of such a website, it would be a good idea to try to cross-check the information.
The strange thing about the above story is that The Verge, although a reliable website, states that it bases its information on an anonymous source, while TorrentFreak, which is at the center of news from torrent sites, does not mention anything about KAT.am.
TorrentFreak reports that no one on the mods team had access to the source code files for the site. So if The Verge's story is true, an admin must have taken down KAT.am. But why didn't they invite the other members of the team who are still on Katcr.co?
