Microsoft tried to market Windows 10 with a particularly aggressive policy. There were reports from users that their computer upgraded its operating system without their permission.
According to The Seattle Times, this also happened to Teri Goldstein, resulting in her filing a lawsuit against Microsoft and ultimately being paid $10,000 in damages, following a court ruling in her favor.
Goldstein claimed in court that a few days after the release of Windows 10, her computer upgraded itself without her knowledge or approval. Then the machine began to slow down until it completely crashed. The plaintiff claimed that the computer was a tool for her work and that because of it she suffered lost profits and was eventually forced to buy a new computer.
Microsoft apologized, stating that users have a month to revert to their previous operating system and can always contact customer support. But the judge was not convinced, and so Teri Goldstein taught the company a lesson.
