Anonymous hacked the US Department of Agriculture

Anonymous hacked the servers of the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), which is the equivalent of our US Department of Agriculture, and leaked information about the Department's employees.

The specific Anonymous group calling itself the World Hacker Team that committed the breach managed to get its hands on data from the USDA's National Agricultural Library (nal.usda.gov).

After the breach, the hackers posted a text on CyberGuerilla (a website where anyone can log in and publish news) detailing their actions.

The data released by the hackers is a raw portion of a database containing login information for the USDA website and USDA staff, including details such as full names, email addresses, organization names, organization addresses, zip codes, fax numbers, and phone numbers.

This breach is part of a broader Anonymous campaign, #OpMonsanto, that has been running for the past two years. Members of the group have declared war on Monsanto, an American agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology multinational.

The company is best known for its cultivation of genetically modified organisms, for which they face much criticism.
