EKT: Σεμινάριο “Προετοιμάζοντας τους νέους ερευνητές για την Ανοικτή Επιστήμη” από το Εθνικό Κέντρο Τεκμηρίωσης
It is organized on October 20 within the framework of the informational actions of EKT for the International Open Access Week 2015.
For the fifth consecutive year the National Documentation Center (EKT) participates in the International Open Access Week to Knowledge (19-25 October 2015). The central event of its related actions is the Seminar “Preparing young researchers for Open Science” which will take place on 20 October at the National Research Foundation. By carrying out simultaneous and coordinated actions for Open Access worldwide, the aim of the Week is the broad information and awareness of the research and academic community about the processes of Open Access to scientific knowledge and the results of publicly funded research.
The EKT, with active action to promote open‑access policies and infrastructures in Greece and Europe, focuses its activities of this year’s organization on the future of research in Greece, i.e., on young researchers. The goal of the actions (October 19‑23 at the National Research Foundation‑NRF) is to inform young researchers about modern practices and policies and the new environment for Open Science emerging in Europe.
The Seminar “Preparing young researchers for Open Science”, which will be held on October 20 (09.30-15.00) at the L. Zervas Auditorium at EIE, will focus on in‑depth briefing of young researchers on Open Science, emerging practices, the policies of research institutions and research funders.
The workshop will also cover, in detail, topics such as open access publications, self-archiving in repositories, open access to research data and its management, as well as copyright and its management. Additionally, the related services of the EKΤ will be presented shortly. Finally, a round table with the participation of young researchers will take a step towards a lively discussion that will focus on the researchers' own perspective on open access.
Participation in the Seminar “Preparing Young Researchers for Open Science” is free, but online registration is required at the website https://openaccess.gr/ekt_oa/oaweek/oaweek_2015.dot. The Seminar will be broadcast live at https://media.ekt.gr/live.
The Seminar will be framed by the action “Learn, Listen, Ask” that will take place from 19 to 23 October 2015 in the space of the K.Θ. Dimaras Library of EKT:
a) Learn: Visitors and researchers can learn about Open Access (OA), its benefits, related infrastructures and EKT actions, as well as copyright clearance issues. They will also be able to take online tours of Open Access sites, in the Library's Electronic Reading Room (opening hours: 08.30-20.00).
b) Listen: Researchers will be able to attend informative fifteen-minute presentations on Open Access in the Library's Electronic Reading Room. More specifically, at 11:00 and 14:00 daily, 20-minute informative sessions will be held for researchers regarding self-archiving in institutional repositories, such as the NHRF's Helios repository.
c) Ask: EKT staff will be available to the public to provide further information and answer questions regarding Open Access.
It should be noted that on the ground floor of the National Research Foundation, where the K.Θ. Dimaras Library and the EKT Electronic Reading Room are located, there is a free wireless broadband WiFi network that allows visitors to access the Internet and the content of the EKT Digital Library.
