The film “The Martian” starring the famous actor Matt Damon hit theaters about 10 days ago.
The film is based on a novel by Andy Weir and is pure science fiction from start to finish. The thing is, as it turns out, the script is so convincing that some people believe the film is based on true events.
And of course, the aeton-nighters out there didn't let such an opportunity go to waste. Someone by the name of Kyle Douglas M started a GoFundMe campaign asking for money to save Matt Damon from Mars.
We read with despair and skepticism what Douglas writes:
"One of Hollywood's greatest actors is currently trapped on Mars after a failed exploration. We need Matt back on Earth, or he's not going to be in another 'Bourne' movie."
Matt is also a loyal friend of another great Hollywood actor Ben Affleck who needs Matt Damon's support as he goes through a divorce. If we fail to get Matt back it could be devastating to our American life and it would be disastrous for the film if we don't save Matt.".
Some people have actually donated money!
Kyle Douglas' GoFundMe campaign aims to raise $99 million (€87 million). So far, it's raised a paltry $86 million (€76 million). But it's reassuring to know that there are people out there who care about rescuing Matt Damon from Mars.
However, beyond the joke and without us being sure if Douglas is telling the truth, at the end he states that he will not appropriate any donations but will give them to Water.org, which is a charity campaign by Matt Damon.
