A company representative sent us Lenovo's response to our article: "Device from China? Pre-installed malware on Android devices".
Here is the company's statement:
“We are actively coordinating with G DATA – an online security research company – to learn all the details regarding their investigation into the malware. Through this process, we learned that G DATA analyzed a specific mobile phone, which had been purchased from a third party.
G DATA's analysis was clear: the malware, which was detected on a single Lenovo device, was likely found there after an application was installed by an intermediary who gained access to the device outside of Lenovo's distribution channel.
The malware, which was detected by G DATA, not pre-installed in the Lenovo device's firmware, as was the case with phones from other manufacturers mentioned in the G DATA report.
Lenovo recommends that customers transact with authorized distribution channels and accept merchandise in its original packaging with the original factory seal, and when making a purchase, ensure that the device meets the manufacturer's safety standards."
