A 31-year-old Greek national was arrested by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate for child pornography via the Internet.
The 31-year-old was located and arrested by police officers of the DI.DI.I.E. following an immediate and coordinated investigation in an area outside Attica, where he was absent on vacation. 
Targeted online investigations were carried out to investigate the case, as the 31-year-old had been using other people's internet connections (IP) for months, to which he had illegally gained access, in order to avoid being traced.
The on-site digital investigation into the 31-year-old's digital media revealed the possession of approximately -38,000- files containing child pornography.
A case of child pornography was investigated by the Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, as part of targeted investigations to combat child pornography on the Internet, and a 31-year-old Greek national was arrested.
Specifically, the investigation of the case began after an online check on a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file exchange network, for possession and distribution of child pornography. The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate conducted a thorough digital investigation and analysis of the data and elements of the case, while an Order and Decree were issued by the competent Prosecution Authority, to lift the confidentiality of communications.
As part of the methodical police-digital investigation by the specialized officers of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, the electronic traces of the 31-year-old were identified, who had been using other people's internet connections (IP) for months, to which he had illegally gained access, in order to avoid being traced.
On Friday (07-08-2015), a police team, in the presence of a Judicial Officer, conducted an on-site search at the 31-year-old's home in an area of Attica, where his online account, which he was using in connection with this case, was identified.
Specifically, the on-site digital search of the 31-year-old's digital media revealed the possession of thousands (approximately 38,000) files containing child pornography, which depicted infants, for which the 31-year-old was arrested while on the verge of a traffic stop.
It is noted that the 31-year-old was away on vacation in an area outside of Attica, where he was located and arrested following an immediate and coordinated investigation by a different team of police officers from the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate.
As part of the investigation at the 31-year-old's home, a laptop computer and three (3) hard drives were found and seized, which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for laboratory tests.
The perpetrator, with the case file filed against him, was brought before the Athens First Instance Prosecutor.
