Windows 10 were officially released on July 29 and, as it seems, they are quickly beginning to capture a fairly large market share.
According to new data, installations of the new operating system have already surpassed those of Windows 8 and are continuously moving toward the record number held by Windows XP.
Basically, Windows 10 was already installed on many computers through the Windows Insider program when it launched, but since their official release and thereafter, installations of Microsoft's new operating system have skyrocketed, as most users of Windows 7 and 8.1 upgraded their computers.
At the moment, Windows 10 holds 3.55% of the market share, which makes it the fifth most widespread operating system worldwide, according to StatCounter data.
Windows 7 continues to hold the top position with a share of 53.8%, followed by Windows 8.1 with 14.93%.
The legacy Windows XP continues to be present on many computers, still accounting for a share that reaches 10.09 percent.
With Windows 10, Microsoft hopes to lower the share of installations of Windows 7 and 8.1, increasing the market share of Windows 10 as much as possible, so that it reaches 1 billion devices by 2017.
