Apple plans to upgrade security alerts for users of its iCloud, following the latest account breaches.
Speaking about the incident for the first time, Apple CEO Tim Cook told the Wall Street Journal that the breach resulted in third parties gaining access to accounts using the correct username and password, or using phishing techniques . Cook said that “ Apple will begin notifying users via email and push notifications when someone tries to change their account password, restore data from iCloud to a new device, or when a device is registered to the account for the first time.”
The change will come in a few weeks. Apple will also "expand" the use of two-factor authentication and encourage more users to adopt the feature, which uses the account owner's smartphone to verify their identity.
