A global robotics competition is being organized for the first time in Greece, specifically in Thessaloniki, on March 8 and 9, at the NOESIS Science Dissemination Center and Technology Museum.
This is the First Lego League (FLL), a global robotics competition for children aged 9 to 16. Thirty-four teams of ten people will take part in the competition, which is organized by the non-profit-charitable association “Action for Education - EDU ACT”.
The competition is designed to help children discover and love science and technology in the most fun way, gaining confidence in their abilities and believing in themselves, while teaching them valuable life skills.
Until the final, workshops and meetings with well-known scientists, speeches and educational competitions will be held. On Friday and Saturday, January 24-25 and January 31-February 1, educational robotics seminars for everyone will be held at the “Mediterranean Cosmos” shopping center.
This year's competition has a theme of the environment and weather phenomena, and in this context, the educational robotics team from the Faroe Islands, Lego Vinir, will be present in Thessaloniki, as well as world-renowned robotics designers Lee Magpilli and Vasilis Chrysanthakopoulos.
“Something as big as this competition, we share it, we make it part of the city,” said Kostas Vassiliou, the educator and initiator of the “EDU – ACT” idea, at a press conference, adding: “The children design, use learning materials and move forward. The program inspires them to discover new things.”.
The organization is supported by the Youth Foundation of the Metropolis of Neapolis-Stavropol. The competition is supported by “Thessaloniki European Youth Capital 2014”, NOESIS, the company “Hellenic Petroleum”, “Mediterranean Cosmos”. The entire organization is under the auspices of the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace and the Municipalities of Thessaloniki, Pylaia-Hortiatis and Kordelio-Evosmos.
