On Monday, the Syrian Electronic Army sent a tweet to The Daily Dot, urging them to remove a post that contained a caricature of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The Daily Dot denied it, so the hackers broke into at least one Daily Dot staff Gmail account. Furthermore, once they had access to his email, the hackers were able to find the information they needed to log into the site's admin panel and remove the offending article.
The attackers published several photos, including emails they sent to the website's staff.
The website had warned its staff that hackers would use phishing emails to trick them into giving away their account credentials. Despite the warning, it appears at least one person fell for the trap.
