The US Air Force is adding the first laser weapon against drones to its arsenal. It is made by Raytheon and can detect and shoot down a drone with a laser beam, within seconds.
When others use trained hawks, the US Air Force uses laser beams. The reason for drones is that the whole world has started to take them seriously, as their capabilities do not stop only at filming but can be used as a weapon, bomb, spy, security, dangerous game, decoy and a whole bunch of other things.
Raytheon has delivered the first anti-drone laser weapon to the US Air Force , just a year after the technology was first introduced. It is a high-energy laser system mounted on a small all-terrain vehicle that uses electro-optical/infrared sensors to detect and track drones. After locating and tracking the unwanted flying device, it neutralizes it with its laser, in a process that takes a few seconds.
Raytheon says the system can draw power from a standard 220-volt outlet and can fire dozens of times (it doesn't give an exact number) on a single charge. However, if it needs to be in the field for an extended period of time, it can also be paired with a generator.
