Microsoft has added the SkyDrive built into Windows 8.1, in an effort to make it easier for its users to access their files stored in the cloud directly from the operating system's Modern UI.
At the same time, the application allows users to manage locally stored files with just a few clicks, without having to leave the modern environment.
Microsoft said in a blog post that bringing more SkyDrive to Windows 8.1 management capabilities was a priority, especially since cloud services are so much more important right now.
“With Windows 8.1, we’ve taken a big step toward that goal. SkyDrive is built into Windows. Opening files and saving them to SkyDrive is now as easy as saving them to your hard drive, but with SkyDrive, your files are also available on your mobile phone, tablet, and desktop PC via SkyDrive.com,” the company said.
According to Microsoft, the integration of SkyDrive into Windows 8.1 is already experiencing a tremendous success, as users of the new operating system upload approximately 3TB of data to the storage service every day.
