As emerged from the investigation of the Southeastern Attica Security Sub-Directorate, the arrested person is a leading member of a criminal group that engages in ATM entrapments using the internationally known "skimming" method.

The perpetrators, through improvised electronic trapping-copying mechanisms, which they place in ATMs, steal personal data from genuine cards, at the time of the transaction, from their legal owner and with this information they manufacture clone cards, with which they make illegal withdrawals.

From the investigation so far, it has been established that the arrested person, together with his accomplices, over the last year have stolen details of ninety-eight (98) cards from bank ATMs, manufacturing corresponding clone cards, causing financial damage of 74,095 euros.

Three (3) credit cards, one (1) clone card and various tools used to trap ATMs were found and seized in his possession.

Investigations into the actions of this particular criminal group against other banks, as well as the determination of the amount of damage, are continuing.

The arrested person was taken to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor.
