Cybercriminals are once again trying to trick Facebook users into installing a malicious plugin on their browser. To lure victims, the scammers have published several articles claiming that Psy, the Korean singer of Gangnam Style, has died.
Experts from Bkav report that the malicious Facebook posts simply say “Psy – Gangnam Style DIED.” Along with this, there is a link that supposedly leads to a website with more details about the event.
Psy is not dead, of course, but the scammers are hoping they can trick users into clicking on the link.
If someone now believes the scammers and clicks, they will be taken to a website that says something completely different but is also interesting.
“Facebook will be closed.” That is, “Facebook will be closed.” Along with this announcement, there is also a video.
To watch the video in which Mark Zuckerberg announced the decision to close the popular website, I urge you to download and install an add-on in your browser.
Once installed, the add-on automatically begins posting fake messages to victims' Timelines.
If you have fallen victim to this scam, make sure to check your browser for any suspicious add-ons. If there are any, remove them immediately. Also, remove any content that the malicious add-on posted to your timeline to protect your friends.
