Initially, the Raspberry Pi Foundation had plans to start with the $25 version of the Linux-based PC, but ended up releasing the slightly more expensive $35 version of the Model B first. This turned out to be a good move as they are estimated to have sold over a million PCs since it launched in April 2012.
Today, the company announced that the $25 model is finally available for sale. The company states that model A will be sold only in Europe and added: “Soon there will be no restrictions, so the rest of the world can also gain access to this model.”
The cheaper price means that in model A some features will be missing. It has only 256 MB RAM memory instead of the 512 MB it had in model B, only one USB port and no Ethernet port.
The good news? Model A uses only one third of the energy that version B model used. The Raspberry Pi Foundation says that this “will allow users to run their computer on battery or even on solar energy .”
