Consumers are concerned that it could be a widespread problem
Recently, a Reddit posted images online of his iPhone 7, which allegedly caught fire while still in its packaging, after it was shipped to him. While the exact cause of the incident is unknown, the owner claimed that it could have happened sometime between the time it was shipped from the factory to him.
Now, a second incident involving an iPhone 7 is making the rounds on the internet, but this time the smartphone did not catch fire.
According to the photos published by MyDrivers, it clearly shows an iPhone 7 with a defective battery. However, upon closer inspection, it appears that the battery is simply “swollen,” likely due to external factors such as heat or perhaps a drop of liquid that may have pushed the screen out of the back cover, despite the waterproof filters used by Apple.
Given the context, Apple will likely be looking closely at these damaged units, as swollen batteries are nothing new for the Cupertino giant. In the past, similar issues have also arisen with older iPhone models that experienced small bulges in certain parts of the display due to the battery swelling, for an unknown reason.
Apple is expected to make a public comment on the matter or provide confirmation that it has begun investigating the faulty device. However, the company will certainly pay close attention to the issue as more buyers are now concerned that it could be a widespread problem.
