Another week starts with brand new apps we found for you. Check out our gallery below to see our top picks.
GoldenHour.One
For photographers, the “golden hour” is the short period just after sunrise and just before sunset when the light is ideal for shooting. The GoldenHour app takes that idea and turns it into a useful tool. Enter your location and the app will show you where and when to go to get the best-lit photos. It also provides a weather forecast for the next few days based on the forecasted weather conditions, so you can plan your shots with the best light.
Hook for iPhone
Hook for iPhone recreates the DJ experience right on your iPhone. The app comes with dozens of sound packs and lets you create your own unique mashups using DJ-style controls that are surprisingly easy to use.
Kubic
Kubic is the most complex puzzle game you can think of. Players must recreate the designs in front of them (which are inspired by the art of MC Escher) using a set of specific pieces. There are 60 different levels – many of which have more than one solution – that quickly become increasingly complex.
Potterize
Potterize lets you create GIFs that look like they were lifted straight from the pages of Harry Potter. Record three-second clips and the app places them in a newspaper that looks like the moving photos from the series. Once captured, you can share and save the image to other apps.
Power Hover
Power Hover places you on a hoverboard that you navigate through a series of levels, completing missions along the way. The game mechanics are simple but the game's plot is surprisingly complex, making it more addictive than you might imagine.
Yik Yak
Yik Yak announced an update this week that will introduce profiles to the app so users can get to know the people they’re chatting with better. You don’t have to use your real identity — profiles show a random picture by default — but the app’s creators say the new profiles will better help users connect with others on the app.
Zagat
Zagat redesigned its iOS app (an updated Android version is also in the works) this week with a new look that makes it easier to search for restaurants by cuisine or neighborhood. The app now also provides personalized recommendations throughout the day based on the time of day and your location.
