Do this cool trick with your iPhone & a magnet!
The iPhone has tons of sensors, including an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, magnetometer, and more. Ivo Leko, an iOS developer, used the magnetometer for an interesting purpose, something you've definitely not seen before.
Are you ready to discover it?

The magnetometer, or compass, uses the Earth's magnetic field to point us north. But Leko has created a demo of a really cool alternative use for the sensor, in which it tracks the position of a magnet some distance away from the iPhone, without using the camera.
In the demo video below, you'll see Leko "draw" on a piece of paper with a magnet, and the drawing is reproduced on the iPhone in near real time. The setup can not only detect position in 2D, but even in 3D, as seen in the video, where bringing the magnet into contact with the floor turns the iPhone's pointer red.

Leko plans to release it as a library that other developers can use in their own apps, allowing for all sorts of interaction possibilities. We've seen similar interaction mechanisms in the past with Leap Motion and Osmo.
