Viber, following WhatsApp's move, has also decided to add end-to-end encryption to its platform, joining all these applications that have recently been trying to strengthen their security!

The messaging app, which has over 711 million users today, is introducing end-to-end encryption for messages and calls, including group chats. It's also adding a new feature that lets you hide any conversations you want instead of deleting them.

Viber said the new services will be available internationally in the coming weeks, and today they were launched in Brazil, Israel, Belarus and Thailand.
The new security features will work on Android, iOS, PCs and Mac Desktops with encryption coming with the latest update (6.0) and a QR Code authentication required to activate the service.

End-to-end encryption means that even companies themselves won't be able to read your messages, and Viber CEO Michael Shmilov said the company has been working on it for years. According to the company, the encryption will come with different levels of security, which will appear in the form of a lock on the right side of the screen.
A gray lock will mean that the conversation (both calls and messages) is fully encrypted. Users will be able to tap on the lock to confirm this.
There will also be the option of a green lock with which you can additionally verify the identity of users before each conversation or constantly monitor them to make sure they have been verified.
A red lock will appear if a trusted user has not verified their identity. This can happen if the device is changed or someone is trying to access data through an attack.
As mentioned above, Viber will also add the option to hide any conversations you want that can only be re-displayed by entering a four-digit code. This is helpful if others have access to your device but you don't want them to see certain conversations.
