Vaio, Fujitsu, & Toshiba create the alliance of the century!

Vaio, Fujitsu, & Toshiba join forces to form Japanese PC supergroup!!

Will this be the alliance of the century in the PC industry?

Vaio, Fujitsu, & Toshiba

Rumors have been circulating in recent hours that giants Vaio, Fujitsu and Toshiba are preparing for a strong alliance that will allow them to create PCs for the ever-growing Japanese market.

If the rumors prove true, the upcoming company will become the leader in the market, which is already led by Vaio. That is, it will start by creating computers for the Japanese market, and then move outward to serve overseas markets. “The PC market is shrinking, which means there are advantages to our collaboration in order to do more and more research, and production and marketing volumes,” Moue said.

In January, market research firm Gartner said the global PC market declined by 8.3 percent. The market is expected to shrink further in 2016.

The implications for you: This suggests that Vaio's moves are still unclear. It's unclear which brands the new company will use. Vaio is expected to be the majority owner of the new company. This suggests that we could see a combination of brands, such as Vaio Dynabooks or Vaio Lifebooks, or perhaps the newly formed PC giant will adopt a new overall brand name, - although if all of that happens of course!

And not just PCs

Moue said the new company could also work on other products, such as smartphones. Vaio recently released a Windows 10 phone for the Japanese market.

According to Moue, Vaio expects to conclude its talks and reach an agreement with Fujitsu and Toshiba by the end of March. Toshiba has not confirmed this claim, and a second report notes that the company has no plans to re-enter the PC market after its recent financial scandal. However, that does not diminish the possibility of a merger.
