Yahoo Inc has hired renowned security researcher Alex Stamos as its chief information security officer, who is known for his opposition to the US government's secret surveillance programs.
Stamos was one of the main organizers of TrustyCon, a group of prominent technology experts who had walked out of the RSA security conference in San Francisco due to escalating disagreements over some tech companies' cooperation with the US in intelligence-gathering efforts.
Yahoo announced the news on Monday on the company's blog by Yahoo Senior Vice President Jay Rossiter. The announcement says Stamos will lead a team of "paranoid" Yahoo developers to build secure products .
