Microsoft gives "explanations" after the paranoia created by its security policy
It's not difficult to cause panic among users when it comes to online data security.
Data protection policy is a difficult and "difficult road", where one can easily get confused.
After the uproar caused in the media ,about spying and data collection, through Windows 10, Microsoft is coming to "clear" the landscape.
The company began by informing the world about exactly what the new security policy used in its new operating system includes, by publishing a blog post.
According to the new policy, the company collects data that follows 3 main axes:
1) Safety and reliability.
This category concerns the collection of data related to the identity of the device, the type and malfunction data of the applications. In no case, as the company clarifies, is data related to the identity of the user collected. This process aims to improve the Windows service provided to users, such as if a server stops functioning and how this event affects users.
2) Personalization Data.
The second axis of data collection, perhaps the most important, as it concerns users the most, concerns the collection of data related to their personal habits. Microsoft explains that the data collected here is intended to make the service more personalized across all the devices that users use. For example, it takes samples of the words that users type most often, to provide a more personalized vocabulary and automatic corrections. The content of these words that can be used to identify the user or IP address is automatically removed. The settings for this data can also be changed in Settings > Privacy > Speech, inking, & typing.
3) Advertising data.
The third category, which concerns data collection for targeted advertising, also scares users. At this point, Microsoft focuses on the data it does NOT collect to reassure users. As the company states, compared to other platforms, regardless of the security settings the user chooses, neither Windows 10 nor other Microsoft software scans the content of email or other communications, users' files, etc., for the purpose of targeted advertising.
The thought of data collection makes people paranoid, but collecting certain data allows us to do various activities on the Internet, such as sending and receiving text messages, transferring credit card details to the bank to purchase apps, etc.
