The company AVTEST, which specializes in security issues, tested 25 popular antivirus for Android devices over a period of 6 months.
These applications were not only rated for the protection capabilities they provide, but also for their ease of use, as well as for the integration of additional features, such as overall battery consumption, internet resources and hardware – features that gave the antiviruses lower or higher scores compared to the competition.
Four applications provide complete protection against 20,000 malware samples, according to tests by independent laboratory AVTEST
Security researchers exposed 25 identical Android devices – all running version 5.1.1 (Lollipop) and each with different antivirus software – to more than 20,000 malware samples.
Only four antivirus apps achieved a 100% real-time threat protection rate, and those were Bitdefender, ESET, Qihoo 360, and Sophos. The good news is that out of the 25 Android security apps tested, none received a detection rate below 95%.
There were also several security applications that stood out for their extra features
In a second set of tests, apps were also ranked based on additional features, such as overall battery consumption, CPU load, internet resource usage (data, wifi), and false positive alert rate. The presence of specialized antitheft features, secure payments, app locks, and system optimization tools were also taken into account to rank apps.
In this series of tests, the majority of antivirus manufacturers excelled, achieving the perfect score of 13 points. These include well-known manufacturers such as Baidu, Bitdefender, cheetah Mobile (Clean Master), G Data, Qihoo 360, Symantec, and Trend Micro.
