LastPass will soon work on Windows 10 and the Edge browser
Microsoft is now working to add browser extensions to the Edge browser, and there is talk that earlier versions of Windows 10 that include such a feature may start appearing by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Microsoft "accidentally" published online a page showing two extensions, Pinterest and Reddit, but it turns out that more will be created in the near future.
Following AdBlock, which confirmed that its own Edge browser extension will launch "very soon," now LastPass, a very popular password manager, has also announced that it is working on supporting Microsoft's new browser on Windows 10.
There is no release date available at this point, but the creators of LastPass note that once Microsoft introduces browser extension support, they may offer their extension.
“Microsoft Edge is the new, default browser that ships with Windows 10. Microsoft has not yet announced support for the Edge browser extension. As soon as we can, we will offer a LastPass extension for Windows 10,” LastPass said. “The LastPass extension can be downloaded to any other browser on Windows 10. Simply visit our download page: https://lastpass.com/download to install the extension to your browser toolbar in Internet Explorer 11, Firefox, Chrome, or Opera.”
Extension support coming in 2016
While the Edge extension could arrive by the end of this month or, potentially, early 2016, the stable version won't be here until summer 2016, when Microsoft is expected to release Redstone, a major update to the operating system.
Redstone will include a wide range of changes, but browser extensions will be among the most important, as Microsoft plans to offer more features for the browser and ultimately make it a better rival to the likes of Chrome and Firefox.
