Virtual reality is now available in the UK for less than £100 after Samsung announced that its new Gear VR (Virtual Reality) headset is available on its website.
The tech giant's headset is the result of a collaboration with Facebook -owned virtual reality company Oculus , and the headset is one of the first virtual reality products aimed at consumers rather than developers.
The company had previously released a virtual reality headset model at a much higher price, but this newer version available to consumers is half the price and with a wider range of software.
The headphones require a smartphone to function and display the display screen on it and are compatible with Samsung S6 edge, S6 and S6 edge devices
Once connected to the device, applications running on the mobile are used to create a virtual reality experience, giving users the impression that they have entered a simulated world.
Samsung IT and Mobile President JK Shin said: “We see virtual reality as the next computing platform and are excited to partner with Oculus on Gear VR to set the standard for mobile virtual reality and bring this revolutionary product to consumers.
Virtual reality has grown rapidly over the past three years as a technology category, and it rose in popularity in part because of an Oculus crowdfunding campaign for its first in-demand prototype.
Since then, in addition to Samsung and Microsoft, HTC and Playstation have released their own virtual reality headsets.
