Anonymous, the famous hacktivist group that helped spread awareness about the revelations of Edward Snowden and a plethora of other social issues, is now focusing its efforts on finance and the banking sector.
In a YouTube video , the group announced a new campaign called Operation Black October, in which hackers are urging people to withdraw their money from banks. The operation has multiple goals and encourages users to: – Withdraw all money from bank accounts – Stop using credit/debit cards – Only pay with cash – (And of course) Spread the word about the campaign Black October will be Anonymous ’ main campaign throughout the month of October, and the group will be dedicated to exposing corrupt banking and financial industries.
The team has also been very friendly in the past with alternatives like Bitcoin, but even if it was omitted (intentionally or not) from their videos, Bitcoin is a solid alternative to the current way people manage money.
The way Bitcoin has been built has attracted the interest of not only hackers and social scum, but also the banking industry itself. Just two weeks ago, it was reported that nine of the largest banks in the world are considering creating their own blockchain servers, one of the key technologies behind Bitcoin.
